I Just Like Reading. You Should, Too.

Synopsis: When Italian businessman Luigi Costanzo discovers that Megan, his beautiful estranged wife, is also the mother of his child, he is incensed! She’s left him no alternative: he will do anything in his power to possess his wife and child.

Megan is less than impressed when Luigi turns up on her doorstep—the week before Christmas! Luigi is as arrogant as ever—and still as impossible to resist. But Luigi is adamant…Megan will be a wife to him—in every way—once more!

Margaret Mayo, like Emma Darcy and Diana Hamilton, was previously in my Don’t-Know-Why-They’re-Popular-list. But after a few years, I read her stories again and finally saw the light. This one is a particularly good example of how lovely her stories are. :)

Synopsis: The Italian billionaire’s inexperienced mistress Eve Middlemiss has come to Florence desperate for information. And only darkly good-looking multimillionaire Raphael di Lazaro, heir to the Lazaro Fashion House, holds the answers she’s searching for. Surrounded by glamour and decadence, Eve is totally out of her depth – until she realises she is the one Raphael wants! If becoming the Italian’s mistress is what it takes to find out the truth about her family, Eve realises she must feign the sophistication and experience she’s sure Raphael is accustomed to – but that means making herself available to his every desire…

I’m not sure but I think she’s a new Harlequin author. Her name’s not familiar. If this is her debut novel, she did a good job. Not perfect, but certainly beyond average. If she keeps this up, I’m sure she’ll be another household name for Harlequin. Watch out for her!

{December 18, 2007}   Diana Hamilton – In Name Only

Synopsis: Javier Campuzano, attractive head of a wealthy Spanish family, was sure of Cathy’s real character. She was selfish, immoral and a bad mother, who would be only too happy to hand over little Johnny to his Spanish relatives and abandon all responsibility for his future upbringing. But what Javier didn’t know was that Cathy wasn’t the child’s mother, even though she claimed to be….

Weird, but I got a bit bored with this so I only skimmed it. I guess the characters didn’t appeal to me that much. Story seems good though.

Synopsis: She’s carrying his baby – so she will be his bride!Italian billionaire Francesco Mastroianni was captivated by the beauty and innocence of Anna, and intrigued by the fact that she didn’t seem to know about his fame or his wealth. But their passionate affair was cut short when Anna’s father attempted to blackmail Francesco into marrying his daughter. Seven months later, Francesco is shocked to see Anna again – she’s struggling to make ends meet and she’s visibly pregnant! If she’s carrying his child – the Mastroianni heir – that can mean only one course of action: he will marry her!

Good premise. Emphasized why I like Diana Hamilton’s works. I didn’t like it before – same way I didn’t like Emma Darcy but changed my mind afterwards – but a couple of years have improved my taste in reading. :)

{December 18, 2007}   Emma Darcy – Sweetest Revenge

Synopsis:
Description Seller assumes all responsibility for listing this item.
Book Condition: Excellent

Synopsis:

An all-consuming passion …

The moment Nick Armstrong saw Barbie Lamb, he had to have her. She was the sexiest woman he’d ever met! Completely forgotten was the teenage Barbie whose youthful crush he’d rejected years ago.

For Barbie, the sweetest revenge was to make Nick want her – then cut him dead. Only he didn’t seem to remember her, and his desire sparked the realization of how deeply she still wanted him. Suddenly their passion was all-consuming – but what would happen when they finally confronted the truth about their past?

This one is really cute. Maybe it’s because of her name, but Barbie made me think of her as a real-life Barbie with an equally sweet attitude to match. The way they met (again) was perfect. I really love the fact that she’s been crushing on him for a looooong time.

Synopsis: He wants his baby, so he’ll make her his bride!

To teacher Erin Lavelle, handsome billionaire Peter Ramsey was like a fairy-tale prince. But after two amazing days their affair was over. Peter had thought Erin was different until he discovered her secret.

Then seven months later he finds her pregnant. Now there’s only one way to ensure his unborn child’s security…marriage. Erin’s knight in shining armor has returned, this time demanding she be his bride!

A good story and Emma Darcy has made a fantastic job – but I think this is to be expected – in describing Erin as a novelist. :) I could really relate to her.

Rating: 8.5 / 10

PS Check out Emma Darcy’s The Billionaire’s Scandalous Marriage featuring Peter’s sister Charlotte.

Synopsis: Damien Wynter was as handsome and arrogant as sin. Heiress Charlotte didn’t need his dark, primitive sensuality in her life, until the man she’d planned to marry disappointed her, and Damien offered a challenge: let him wed her and get her pregnant!

It was all about winning to Damien, but Charlotte wanted a baby, and if surrendering to him meant she could win, too…why not accept his scandalous offer?

The first few books of Emma Darcy didn’t appeal to me and I used to wonder what made her such a popular author. But after a few years, I got smart and I realized what made her books so beautiful. It’s the characters and the tender sensuality of her stories. The only thing I can complain about is that not all of her heroines are sexually innocent, but I don’t really hold that against her because it’s my Philippine upbringing that makes me care for something like that.

PS This one is related to The Billionaire’s Captive Bride. It features Charlotte’s brother Peter Ramsey.

Synopsis: Laine left her husband Daniel Flynn, still an innocent and bitterly sad because she had realized that their marriage was just a sham. Years later, they got to meet each other once more and forced to live under one roof.

Typical Sara Craven with lots of glorious misunderstandings. The best thing I like is its setting – ex-lovers living together – and the fact that she’s idolized Daniel – her brother’s best friend – since way back when.

Rating: 8/10

Synopsis: Abigail Green gets lost on her way to her client’s house and that’s how she gets to meet Max Wingate. Max shows no hesitation in showing his interest in Abby, but the past makes Abby a more formidable challenge than he’s used to.

It’s a typical Catherine George novel. Don’t expect powerful sensuality – the kind that Lucy Monroe, Jane Porter, Miranda Lee, and Lynne Graham are known for. It’s more like Helen Bianchin and Sara Craven. The pace is moderate, the characters a bit passive because of the numerous inner conflicts they have to struggle with. The best Catherine George book I like happens to be the first one I’ve read of her works as well. Its title is Lair of the Dragon and unfortunately, An Italian Engagement doesn’t quite come close.

{December 18, 2007}   Anne Mather – Diamond Fire

I can’t recall which Anne Mather book exactly has made me her fan but anyway, since then, I’ve read every book she’s written that came my way.

Synopsis: Camilla comes to visit her friend Victoria, only to find out that Victoria’s gone missing with her young son and her husband Alex Conti suspects Camilla of knowing – or has ways of knowing at least – Victoria’s whereabouts.

The premise didn’t appeal to me. Whether Victoria’s a bitch or a raving lunatic doesn’t matter. It’s still kinda icky that Camilla is slowly falling for Alex Conti. Good story all in all, as long as you don’t mind the premise.
